While we had a few challenges, 2014 summer camp at 3-Falls was a success. We lost Mikey and Chuck Wednesday to illness, but they are okay now. All the scouts that stayed completed at least 2 merit badges, and a couple four. They managed a spark in the Firequest and took 3rd in camp wide games. Ben and company came up with a completely new skit that was a hit on Wednesday night and carried over to Friday at games it seemed; "Old Scout Body Spray". Besides the 3rd overall in the games, Gabe was first in archery, and they also took 1st in another event that I cannot remember.
Of course, there were some exuberant card games in camp most nights when time allowed, but with two night climbing opps, campfires, and the leader splash, which I managed to bring home again, there was little time. We did a badly needed project on the drainage in Paiute where we camped, with all the boys helping some. Hopefully the erosion will be stopped for a while and the mud puddle eliminated. The camp stayed more or less clean, though they could have done better of course. All of our OA members attended the OA activity, though I missed part of it due to needing to attend to another matter. Boys did AM flags on Friday and pulled it off in good stead, looking sharp. Included Won as caller, and Ben, Patrick, Thomas, and Henry.
From my own perspective, the staff this year was in my top three at any camp I have attended with the troop. And kudos to the cook this year; she and her crew outdid themselves. Of course the Friday meal at the fort was good, but this year's root beer was exceptional. The patriotic retirement ceremony again brought chills and pride.
Thanks to the leadership that I had helping me. Charlie and Makani completed their training, including Health and Safety. While Chuck had to leave due to Mikey being sick, he was a huge asset the first few days. Looking forward to the COH in September. Photos in the Gallery on this site.
